2007 ATTORNEYS GENERAL RACES
EXPANDING THE DEMOCRATIC MAJORITY
In addition to winning critical attorney general races across the Country in 2006 and increasing
Democratic control of this office to 31 states, DAGA is working on three races in 2007 in Kentucky,
Louisiana and Mississippi.
Louisiana Attorney General Charles Foti (D) Elected: 2003
Charles C. Foti, Jr. was sworn in on January 12, 2004 as Louisianas Attorney
General, after serving for 30 years as one of the most innovative law enforcement
officials in the United States, Orleans Parish Criminal Sheriff. Prior to that position,
he served for several years as an attorney for several local, state and federal
agencies. Throughout his career, Attorney General Foti has remained committed
to public service and, most importantly, he remains committed to the people he
serves.
Mississippi Attorney General Jim Hood (D) Elected: 2003
Jim Hood was elected Attorney General of Mississippi on November 4, 2003.
Prior to being elected Attorney General, Hood served for eight years as District
Attorney for the Third Circuit Court District in North Mississippi. He was a special
assistant attorney general for five years under former Attorney General Mike
Moore. He worked as a Supreme Court law clerk under former Supreme Court
Justice Armis Hawkins.
Kentucky Attorney General Race
Louisville attorney Jack Conway (D), a rising star in the Kentucky Democratic party, will face St. Representative Stan Lee (R) this November. In 2002, Jack waged one of the country's most watched bids for the United States Congress. Prior to his Congressional bid, Conway served for six years in senior level cabinet positions in the administration of former Governor Paul Patton, helping lead the state on many of the issues most critical to Kentucky's future -- education, public safety, energy and the environment.
